Allen West Knows Jihad—The Enemy Ideology

Allen West for Congress…and Beyond?

Thanks to Hillel Stavis for extracting, and posting this video.

Speaking at a Hudson Institute New York forum panel (Wednesday January 13, 2010) on national security, Lt. Colonel Allen West answered a Marine’s query about the jihad against Western civilization with singular clarity and consistency, elucidating the enemy’s motivating ideology.

Col. West explained that we are,

“…fighting a theo-political belief system that has been doing this since 622 A.D.—1388 years.

Furthermore, to understand this uniquely Islamic ideology and its historical consequences, past and present, he states plainly:

“You want to dig up Charles Martel and ask him why him why he was fighting the Muslim army at the Battle of Tours in 732? You want to ask the Venetian fleet at Lepanto why they were fighting  a Muslim fleet in 1571? You want to ask…the Germanic and Austrian knights why they were fighting at the gates of Vienna in 1683? You want to ask people what happened at Constantinople and why today it is called Istanbul because they lost that fight in 1453?

You need to get into the Koran…and understand their precepts. This is not a perversion. They are doing exactly what this book says.”

And Col. West reminds us of what should be self-evident, contra the willfully blind, delusional apologetics embraced by our current political and military leadership:

“Until you get principled leadership in the United States of America that is willing to say that, we will continue to chase our tail, because we will never clearly define who this enemy is, and then understand their goals and objectives—which (are) on any jihadist website—and then come up with the right (and) proper objectives to not only secure our Republic but secure Western civilization.”

How fortunate that this heroic, wise, and eloquent man is seeking national public office—a Congressional seat in southern Florida.

I pray he wins that Congressional seat, and seeks even higher office.

  1. Hearing the truth spoken during times of suffocating disinformation is like a cool drink of water during a drought. Thank you Col. West and Dr Bostom.

  2. What have we here?
An American politician actually speaking the truth about Islam!
Have you no shame Col. West!?

  3. I want this man in the White House pronto!

  4. NOTE: He is RETIRED. Any active duty service person speaking the truth about Islam is surely run out of the service or otherwise demoted or relieved of any serious duties. And that explains our rather absurd attempts to democratize Iraq and Afghanistan, something that goes against Islam in every way imaginable. But there is NO EXCUSE for our military, the Pentagon with basically unlimited resources, to continue to fail to speak the truth about our current enemy which is not terrorism but Islam per se. Our military academies don’t even teach about the warlord Muhammad (which should be taught alongside other historic military generals and leaders) unless it is in some sort of disgusting whitewashed pablum that only confuses the next generation of our military more than anything.

  5. This guy has got *MY* vote…for Congressman & President, if he so deigns.

    …and I’m a whitey!

You, go, West: I’ll campaign for you night and day if you run.

  6. Allen West is a rare politician, we need to clone him!!!

  7. He is exactly right. People who know nothing about Islam are inclined to be *truthers* who think 911 was an “inside job” and are ignorant of the fact Osama bin Laden said 911 happened in response to the abolition of the Caliphate. Islam/the Koran commands Jihad in order to bring back the 12th Imam. There is no other religion with a “dhimmi” second class status for non Muslims, who must pay a jizya, or poll tax in that inferior status. Islam is repressive, oppressive, and quite frankly, and Evil religion anyone who doesn’t think so, should ask the Coptic’s, and Apostates, who have left Islam.

  8. First Congress, then the WhiteHouse. I first read of Allen West on Atlasshrugs website and I was very impressed. Watch some video’s of him. A warrior, a leader, articulate, intelligent, just what this country needs. He’s got our back if we elect him and I pray that we are smart enough to do so. He is sincere, no politician phoniness about him and he inspires me.

  9. Yes, this guy is smart and articulate…..but he doesn’t have the “commanding voice” of the ‘bamanater. Remember the “YES WE CAN” crap? The right needs someone smart, with, an impressive speaking art. I would vote him into the presidency too if he was pro-2nd amendment.

  10. Kudos to him!

However, this: “You want to ask…the Germanic and Austrian knights why they were fighting at the gates of Vienna in 1683?” needs an important addendum. It was somebody else who bore the brunt of the battle for the Christian West and it should always be remembered.

Here it goes: The battle started in the early morning hours on September 12, after the city had been besieged by the Turks for more than two months. The Turkish army of roughly 90,000 men had invested Vienna on July 14 and on the same day, Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa, the commander-in-chief, sent the demand for surrender to the city. Count Ernst Rüdiger Starhemberg, leader of the 11,000 troops and 5,000 citizens and volunteers of Vienna, in possession of 370 cannons, refused.

As their cannons were outdated and the fortifications of Vienna up to date, the Turks found a more effective use for their gunpowder. Tunnels were dug under the massive city walls to blow them up. The siege cut Vienna off all food supply, and garrison and citizens suffered extreme hardship and many casualties. Fatigue became such a problem that Starhemberg ordered any soldier found asleep on watch to be shot. Increasingly desperate, the men holding Vienna were on their last legs when in August Imperial forces under Duke Charles of Lorraine beat the Hungarians at Bisamberg, north-east of Vienna.

On September 6, the Poles crossed the Danube 30km north west of Vienna at Tulln to unite with the Imperial forces and additional troops from Bavaria, Baden, Franconia, Swabia and, notabene, Saxony, who had answered the call for a European Alliance. Emperor Leopold I was deeply mistrustful of Duke Johann Georg III, Elector of Saxony, but in the face of the siege of Vienna, had called for help. The devout Protestant Johann Georg led himself a 10,400 man army against the Turks. He, at whose request the battle call had been changed from “Mary Help” to “Jesus and Mary Help”, showed tremendous personal courage on the left wing, for which neither the Catholic Emperor nor his own Protestant estates ever thanked him.

In spite of the multi-national composition and the little time they had, the defenders of the West were able to establish an effective leadership structure, which centered around the King of Poland. (It should be never forgotten as well that Louis XIV of France not only declined to join, but used the opportunity to raid cities in Alsace and other parts of South Germany.)

During early September, Turkish sappers repeatedly blew up large portions of the Vienna walls, creating gaps of about 12m width. The Austrians tried to counter by digging their own tunnels to intercept the depositing of large amounts of gunpowder in subterranean caverns. The Turks finally managed to occupy the Burg ravelin and the Niederwall on September 8. Anticipating a breach in the city walls, Starhemberg and the remaining Austrians prepared to fight within Vienna itself.

The Alliance forces arrived on the “Kahlen Berg” (bare hill) above Vienna, signaling their arrival with bonfires. In the early morning hours of September 12, Mass was held for King Jan Sobieski of Poland and his nobles. At 04:00, the Turks attacked to interfere with the deployment of the Alliance troops. Charles of Lorraine moved forward with the Austrian army on the left and the German forces in the center. Mustafa Pasha launched a counter-attack with most of his force, but held back some of the elite Janissary and Spahi units for a simultaneous assault on the city. The Turkish commanders had prudently intended to take Vienna before the Polish forces arrived, but time had run out.

The Polish infantry launched a massive assault upon the Turkish right flank. Instead of focusing on the battle with the relief army, the Turks tried to force their way into the city, carrying their crescent flag. After twelve hours of fighting, the Poles held the high ground on the right. The Alliance cavalry waited on the hills, watching the infantry battle for the whole day. Then at about 17:00, they attacked in four groups. One group was Austrian-German, and the other three were Polish. Over 20,000 men (one of the largest cavalry charges in history), charged down the hills. It was led by Jan Sobieski at the head of his 3,000 heavy lancers, the awe-inspiring “Winged Hussars”, whose mere noise sent the Turks flying. The Polish charge broke the lines of the Turks. In the confusion, the Polish cavalry headed straight for the Turkish camp, while the remaining Vienna garrison sallied out of their defenses to join the assault.

The Turks, tired and dispirited following the failure of a major sapping attempt and the brute force assault on the city, were quick to retreat at the arrival of the Polish cavalry. In less than three hours after the Polish attack, the Christian forces had prevailed. At 17:30, Jan Sobieski entered the deserted tent of Kara Mustafa and the battle of Vienna for the Christian West was over and won.

Jan Sobieski was rightfully looked upon as the saviour of Vienna and the whole Christian Europe. He died in 1696. It is part of the tragic history of the gallant and hapless Polish people that he wasn’t able to carry forward a dynasty. Instead by his son Jacob Louis Henry Sobieski, he was followed by the Saxon king August the Strong. 256 years minus 12 days later, Europe refused to honour the huge debt they owed Poland and paid a high price for it.

But at least we ought to give them their due here and now.

  11. I can hardly wait to see the reactions of Keith Ellison, CAIR, and other liars–and of our clueless politicians, too–to West’s dynamic and knowledgeable description of the manufactured ideology that drives our foe in this poorly named ‘war on terror’–authentic, unperverted Islam–as whomever wrote the Qur’an intended it.

  12. Thank God!
A politition who isnt willfully ignorant on what Islam means for all non beleavers.

  13. Witnessing Redstate Gail Baum’s question punted from one panelist to another was very disturbing. Every member on that panel should be able, without hesitation, to respond to that marines question with the same direct confidence as Col. West.

Col. West has my attention and perhaps, if he so chooses to run for higher office, he also has my support & vote.

As for punt-the-question Babbin, hopeful-for -more-rational-voices -Myers, and plead-the-fifth-snort-giggle- McCarthy . . .I shake my head in despair.

  14. Col. West, you have the ability to be a true hero to this generation, continue to speak the truth. I would like to be present to hear a conversation that you might have with Thomas Sowell. If it ever happens let me know when and where. We need you in Congress and then to a higher office. I say let’s retire the community organizer.

  15. Does anyone have an idea why Robert Spencer has failed to put up this most important story — of the first American politician, Allen West, in recent history to demonstrate a clear and informed Islamorealism — on Jihad Watch? Andrew Bostom put this up on Feb. 13; Diana West posted it on her blog on the morning of Feb. 14; and Lawrence Auster 48 hours ago (as I write) put it on his blog on Monday morning. Feb. 15. It is now the morning of Feb. 17, and nary a peep from Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch, who is usually right on top of things related to the problem of Islam — and this is no small story: this is huge.

Hm… what do Bostom, Diana West and Lawrence Auster all have in common, vis-à-vis Robert Spencer…? It would be a shame if Spencer is avoiding his duty to publicize this most exigent story just because those who scooped it (and whom he must therefore acknowledge or even, God forbid, appreciatively link) have become — for reasons we mere civilians of the anti-Islam movement may never know — personae non gratae.
