Diana West has a chilling and infuriating blog about how the sheer perversity of our  “drink lots of tea, eat lots of goat, get to know the people.” Afghanistan “strategy” is getting US soldiers killed. She observes, aptly:

 

What was that again, Lieutenant? “You can’t trust even some of their soldiers or officers”? And let’s see — the “Afghan army” proposed this mission in the first place? And then “villagers” fired on the Afghan forces with their American trainers? Sounds like a good day for the Taliban — an American-led rout that will make any Afghan considering cooperating with the US think twice or thrice….This is no way we should fight a war. Nor is this the kind of war we should fight.
