KEY FINDINGS AND SUMMARY POINTS

1) 29% [617/2127] of Rhode Island July, 2021 covid-19 infections occurred among those fully vaccinated, but with no prior infection history. (30% of all new infections [639/2127=30.0%] occurred in those fully vaxed irrespective of prior infection)

2) Only 3.4% [51/1488] of those unvaccinated (or partially vaccinated), but previously covid-19 infected, got re-infected

3) Regardless of vaccination status, fully, or not, only 3.4% [73/2127] of those with a prior covid-19 infection, got re-infected.

  • Accordingly, recovery from natural covid-19 infection in Rhode Island during July 2021 was ~8.5-fold (850%) more protective against new covid-19 infection, relative to full vaccination.

With the caveats that hospitalizations have yet to be sorted according to “because of” vs. “with” covid-19, and include only 96 total, here are two key points:

4) 18.8% [18/96] of Rhode Island July, 2021 covid-19 hospitalizations occurred among those fully vaccinated, but with no prior infection history

5) 12.5% [12/96] of Rhode Island July, 2021 covid-19 hospitalizations occurred among those unvaccinated, but with a prior infection history

  • Accordingly, recovery from natural covid-19 infection in Rhode Island during July 2021 was ~1.5-fold (150%) more protective against new covid-19 hospitalization, relative to full vaccination.
